The Lewis University Police Department is dedicated to serving students, faculty and staff with a team of highly trained public safety professionals committed to creating a safe living and learning environment. The Lewis University Police Department supports students in their academic and personal journeys through a model of community policing focused on student development. Our numerous educational programs, interactive activities and approach to behavioral interventions are meant to foster a relationship with the Flyer community built on trust and collaboration. Our team of public safety professionals has specialized training in numerous areas relevant to supporting a diverse campus of learners.

As a University alum, a Flyer dad and the Chief of police, I am personally invested in our students’ success. It is my expectation that our officers conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism and humanity, while demonstrating their respect for the individual dignity of each of our community members. I encourage students, parents, faculty or staff to stop in with a question, compliment or complaint any time. The coffee maker’s always on and the door’s always open.

Mike Zegadlo ’96,’02 & Holly Zegadlo ’97 We met in 1990 when we were both in high school – separate, all-boys and all-girls Catholic high schools on the south side of Chicago. We stayed together during our years as students at Lewis and, after graduating, we both got hired by Lewis in student affairs. Mark was interested in transferring to Lewis and while on campus visiting other friends, Mark stopped by a "gathering" at Julie (Wolf) Ferin's '97, huge triple in Sheil Hall. Pam and Mark started talking and had their first date the next night. Almost two years later, Julie was their maid of honor. Mark and Pam have been married for 14 years and have a 7 year old son - Mac.

We became very good friends after we repaired a roof together in Appalachia on a Lewis service trip at the end of our freshman year. We began dating during our junior year, and almost two years after graduation, on June 28, 1997 we returned to Lewis to get married in the chapel where we had spent so much time.

We met when we were freshmen in the fall of 1990.  Donna was playing girls flag football that was coordinated through the intramural department.  It was held on the baseball field.  Steve saw me playing and inquired who I was.  Later we met at the Flyers Den on campus (when it was a bar).  I was not interested in him at the time.  I saw Steve on a couple other occasions.  On the day I was going home for Christmas break, I visited Steve.  He was going to take a final exam.  I didn't stay long, but he stuck in my mind over break.  I had gone skiing in Colorado and sent him a postcard to his school mailbox.  Upon receiving it, Steve sought me out and we hooked up.  Steve attended law school at Loyola University after graduation.  We were engaged on November 23rd, 1996 and married on December 6, 1997.  We have three children and presently live in Plainfield.

We stayed together during our years as students at Lewis and, after graduating, we both got hired by Lewis in student affairs. On July 17, 1997 we were married in the Sancta Alberta Chapel on a 90 degree summer day (before the chapel had air-conditioning).We were the first residents to move into North Hall when it opened, occupying the staff apartment on the top floor. Our family was the last family to occupy 400 Faculty Lane, now the home of Alumni Relations.After leaving Lewis for about a decade, I came back in 2011 to help start the police department. Our oldest daughter, Natalie, is considering attending Lewis as a Freshman in Fall of 2016. If she does, she'll be a third generation Zegadlo to study at Lewis, starting with my father, Bob Zegadlo, in 1958.

Trained as a mechanical engineer, Mike received his PhD from the University of Cambridge and began working at Warwick Business School in 1995 and has held visiting appointments at Harvard Business School and Georgetown University. He joining the University of Bath’s School of Management in 2004. Trained as a mechanical engineer, Mike received his PhD from the University of Cambridge and began working at Warwick Business School in 1995 and has held visiting appointments at Harvard Business School and Georgetown University. He joining the University of Bath’s School of Management in 2004. His early research focused on the meaning and management of effective manufacturing practice but, over time, he has expanded his interests to address questions of efficiency and effectiveness in various public and private sector service settings – from fast fashion retail to care homes, from management consultancy to nuclear storage. Building on the strong legacy of supply chain research at Bath, Professor Lewis studies the management of complex business relationships and contracts (PFI/PPP). He is the author of numerous journal articles as well as several books, including a widely adopted and translated textbook on Operations Strategy (co-authored with Nigel Slack, Emeritus Professor at Warwick Business School). He was a long-standing Member of the Advisory Council to the Chartered Management Institute and was recently a member of a government expert group reporting on the measurement of UK industrial activity. He is currently a theme leader for the Cabinet Office/IPA Project Excellence Initiative and an academic scholar in the Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures, an initiative focused on ageing.

Dr. Michael Cherry is an Assistant Professor in the Organizational Leadership program at Lewis. Prior to joining the faculty, he spent over twelve years as the Academic Coordinator of Adult Business Programs in the College of Business at Lewis. In this role he was responsible for the overall character, content and quality of the Accelerated Business Programs for adult students. In addition to his administrative role, Mike has been an adjunct faculty member for Lewis and several institutions where he has taught undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level on-ground and on-line courses. Finally, Mike has consulted with a number of organizations over the past 20 years assisting organizations and individuals in for-profit and non-profit settings to achieve strategic business and professional objectives.
